Jack Black Stars in First Trailer for “A Minecraft Movie,” Coming April 2025

The first trailer for “A Minecraft Movie” has arrived, with Jack Black leading the cast in this exciting adaptation of one of the best-selling video games of all time. Set to hit theaters on April 4, 2025, the film transports characters into the iconic blocky world of Minecraft. In the trailer, Black humorously declares, “I… am Steve,” much to the groans of his crew, who have been transported into the game’s fantasy universe.

Directed by Jared Hess, known for “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre”, the highly anticipated Minecraft movie features an impressive ensemble cast, including Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. Backed by Warner Bros. and Legendary, the film brings the game to life, with Mojang Studios—the creators of Minecraft—serving as producers. Minecraft, a global sensation with over 140 million monthly users, debuted in 2011 and has since spawned popular spinoffs like Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends.

In the first glimpse of the movie, fans get to see Black and Momoa encounter familiar game creatures such as piglins and creepers as they navigate the dynamic Minecraft world. Talking about her role, Danielle Brooks teased some of the action, saying, “I’ve been harnessed a few times… It’s really Jack Black who’s doing the heavy lifting. He’s doing some flying with techno-fire behind him.”

Black’s role in A Minecraft Movie continues his string of video game-to-film adaptations, following his appearances in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Jumanji: The Next Level,” and “Borderlands.” Momoa, on the other hand, adds this film to his impressive resume of blockbuster franchises like “Aquaman,” “Dune,” and “Fast & Furious.”
