Day 2 of Chaitra Navratri 2024 falls on April 10. After the Ghatasthapana and worship of Maa Shailputri on Day 1 (April 9), devotees celebrate Day 2 by worshipping Maa Brahmacharini. This nine-day festival, which starts from the first day of the Hindu Luni-Solar Calendar, is dedicated to Maa Durga and her nine divine forms.

Who is Maa Brahmacharini? Significance of Day 2

Maa Brahmacharini, worshipped on Day 2 of Chaitra Navratri, represents an unmarried form of Goddess Parvati, also known as one of the incarnations of Adi Shakti. According to Hindu mythology, she performed intense penance to attain Lord Shiva as her husband. Maa Brahmacharini walks barefoot, holding a Jap Mala (rosary) in her right hand and a Kamandal in her left hand.

Goddess Brahmacharini governs Lord Mangal (Mars), the provider of fortune. Worshipping her grants virtues like renunciation, self-control, and a deep sense of spirituality, leading to a fulfilling life. Her blessings help devotees achieve their desires and enhance their spiritual journey.

  • Moonrise: April 10 at 6:51 PM

  • Ravi Yoga: Starts at 3:05 AM on April 11 and ends at 6:00 AM on April 11

Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 2: Rituals, Puja Vidhi, Colour, and Samagri

The auspicious colour for Day 2 is Royal Blue, symbolizing contentment, prosperity, and the divine light that dispels darkness.

Rituals:

  • Devotees worship Maa Brahmacharini along with Lord Shiva.
  • Many observe a fast to seek Maa Brahmacharini’s blessings.
  • Offerings like jasmine flowers, rice, sandalwood, and a special bhog of sugar are made to the deity.
  • Abhishek is performed using milk, curd, and honey.
